WHAT IS FOODIE FRIDAY?
Every Friday, I aim to inspire my readers to eat better (not always healthier!) by documenting my culinary adventures from the past week.
This will be in the form of a blog post (that you’re reading now) and a video on my Instagram TV channel.
My Pick of the Week
Pyrmont Bridge Hotel
Incredibly delicious steaks!
When you choose a steak, more often that not it’s worth paying the extra money to get a good cut. So when I saw these 300g Porterhouse’s on the menu, I couldn’t resist!
It turned out to be a fantastic choice; cooked medium, it was tender, moist and full of flavour. Just for good measure, I added in a mushroom sauce (although the steak was great on its own!), some sweet potato fries and a pot of slaw – top notch meal.
Something for Vegetarians
Lentil As Anything
This is a great little vegan cafe in the suburb of Newtown, Sydney.
The menu changes every day, meaning there’s always something fresh to look forward to. It also reflects the availability of local produce – only offering veggies and fruit that are in season.
Lentil is run on a pay-as-you-wish basis – offering open arms to anyone wanting a meal. If you can’t pay with money, you can offer your time in exchange for a meal. The cafe depends on such volunteers to help everything run smoothly (especially as they’re always busy)!
The food itself is also pretty delicious. When I visited I tried an Indonesian vegetable curry called sayer lodeh; the creamy coconut sauce was slightly spicy and very rich – just what I like!
Best thing I Drank
Salted Caramel Milkshake
I simply couldn’t resist this beast of a milkshake!
Only intending to go out for a burger, I ended up indulging in this heavenly, creamy, sweet, thick, delicious milkshake. Oh, and this thing was huuuuge – easily the biggest milkshake I’ve ever had!
It definitely wasn’t the healthiest thing I had this week (dread to think how much sugar it contained), but sometimes you have to just go for it and not worry about the sugar/fat/salt content.
If you want to try it for yourself, this shake was from Chur Burger in Sydney. FYI, Doughnut Time do smaller but way fancier shakes – the type you see on Instagram.

Unnamed bar in Torla, Spain
This is the best rum I’ve ever drunk in my entire life!
The high quality of the rum was immediately distinguishable. However, it was the preparation process that most amazed me.
It involved heated glasses, napkins and upturned plates. You can read more about it here: The Best way to Drink Rum.
