As some of you may know, I’m a bit of a foodie. So when I visited Spain recently I went tapas-crazy!
I tried tapas everywhere I went because they offer the greatest variety-for-money. However, in some places they were overpriced and in others they simply weren’t good quality.
Granada though, is up there with the best! Here are the details of where I visited, what I tried and how much it cost:
El Origen Tapas Bar
➲ Small beer (Amstel) + Croquetas de espinaca y pimentos (Spinach & pepper croquettes) = €2 (£1.8/US$2.3)
➲ Small beer (Amstel) + Tostilla con queso de crema y guacamole (toast with cream cheese & guacamole) = €2
They might not look great but they sure tasted good. Plus, you can’t argue with the cost!
Babel world fusion tapas bar
➲ Small beer (Al Andalus pale ale) + Salteado Thai (Thai style spaghetti with red cabbage)= €2
➲ Small beer (Al Andalus pale ale) + Hummus (simply flatbread with hummus) = €2
There’s a lot of Middle Eastern influence in this area so if there was ever a place to try a hummus tapa, this was it, and it didn’t disappoint!
➲ Glass of sangria + Arroz con chorizo (rice with chorizo) = €2
This homemade rice tapa was the only choice but very good nonetheless.
Granada is THE place to go for tapas – especially along Calle Elvira. It’s ridiculously good value for money as you get a small beer with every tapa (or a free tapa with every small beer, whichever way you want to look at it!).
The quality is also very good as there is stiff competition. On a weekend afternoon it’s a great atmosphere too as locals and tourists alike convene on the tapas bars for a drink and a bite to eat.
The beautiful thing about tapas is you can have as many or as few as you like, when you like and where you like. Had enough of the music at one bar? Move to the next. Tried all the tapas that take your fancy at the next bar? Move on to another one. Full up or feeling the effect of all those beers? Chill for a bit and soak up the atmosphere.
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself to Granada and try some tasty tapas!
